Rising Sun High School is a public high school in Rising Sun, Indiana. It is part of Rising Sun-Ohio County Community Schools and is the only high school in Ohio County. The Rising Sun High School family of students, staff, parents, and community members strive to provide a safe, healthy, and orderly learning environment which challenges students to reach their maximum potential so that they may become productive members in our ever changing society.

1. Client Challenge:

The primary driver of this project was to save in energy costs.

2. Lighting Solution:

Phase change materials are used to store and release heat during the winter and to reduce heat build-up, peak loads, and air conditioning costs in summer.

This focus of this project was to install phase change material in the classrooms throughout Rising Sun High School to not only provide energy savings to the school, but to provide a better level of comfort for classroom occupants as well.

3. Results:

At the completion of this project, 17,150 sq. ft. of phase change material were installed. The total energy savings included 3,542 therms and 41,262 kWh. The total cost savings from this project was $6,963.
