Mayor Carlo DeMaria and the Office of Planning and Development are pleased to report that the City recently signed an energy savings performance contract with Ameresco, Inc. Ameresco, based in Framingham, helps organizations meet complex energy management challenges with an integrated comprehensive approach to energy efficiency and renewable energy. Ameresco is the regional energy services partner of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC).
Under the contract, Ameresco will complete a Preliminary Energy Audit (PEA) of all city buildings and systems to determine any necessary upgrades or changes for reducing energy costs and modernizing energy infrastructure. Energy efficiency solutions could include lighting, window and HVAC replacements, installation of new boilers, chillers and on-site cogeneration equipment, and the latest energy management systems. The PEA is done at no charge to the City.
Based on the recommendations made in the PEA, the City can then decide which, if any, upgrades and projects to complete. If upgrades are decided upon, the City would then enter into an Investment Grade Audit agreement with Ameresco. The City and Ameresco are looking to begin the audit in the upcoming months.
