The City of Lancaster, California was born in the late 1800s as a prosperous community along the new Southern Pacific Railroad between Los Angeles and San Francisco, Lancaster, California has evolved from a farming community to a host city to one of the premier aviation research and development regions of the nation. Lancaster, with a population of over 150,000 residents and located at an elevation of 2350 feet above sea level, is the hub of the Antelope Valley and home to the beauty and clear blue skies of the California High Desert.

1. Client Challenge:

Like many municipalities, a balanced budget is more and more difficult to achieve. The project was implemented to ease energy cost in order to remain fiscally responsible.

Since 1994, the City has recognized the importance of local government?s role in preserving the environment. That was the year the City Council chose to adopt the Blue Skies Program, along with a resolution stating that the City should use alternative fuels whenever possible. The City?s environmentally-friendly practices have continued growing ever since.

2. Water Solution:

The scope of work focused on for the City of Lancaster included (6) buildings and/or locations. Included within the scope of work were replacement and retrofits.

3. The Results:

Utility savings were generated by reducing water usage. Below are the fixtures that were upgraded:

  1. Urinals
  2. Toilets
  3. Sinks; both lavatory and kitchen
  4. Shower Heads
  5. Sprayers on pre-rinse sinks
