SULLIVAN COUNTY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Located in Milan Missouri, Sullivan County Memorial Hospital is a not-for-profit organization serving the health care needs of Sullivan County and the surrounding area with primary areas of acute, emergency, outpatient and long-term care since 1953.

Today SCMH is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital with 14 more beds designated as long-term Medicaid certified.

Client Challenge:

With increasing operating costs continuing to plague the viability of the hospital, there was a need to identify other means of strengthening the hospital’s financials. By being more energy efficient the hospital could tap into dollars normally spent on operations.

Water Solution:

RTS Water conducted an evaluation of the facility and from that developed a plan to help them save on energy costs. The water conservation measures RTS used included both new fixture installation and retrofits. The installation of the new fixtures included Flushometer Toilets with flow moderators to ensure that the gallons per flush are at a conserving level of flow (1.5 gpf).

Lavatory sinks, utility sinks, and pre-rinse sinks were also installed as well as retrofitted and replacing spray valves in sinks.

The Results:

The results were a hit with the management. Their utility savings were generated in three different areas: water, sewer, and natural gas usage. Most of the savings resulted from water and sewer reductions. The natural gas was saved by the reduction in hot water consumption. Since less hot water is being used, less energy is required at the hot water heater.
