Pioneer Park Work Planned For 2 Phases

Pioneer Park improvements will start sooner rather than later with the Des Peres Board of Aldermen approving on Monday a contract for $64,000 with Planning and Design Studio.

Improvements will cost $800,000, $200,000 of which was supposed to come from a park grant. The city did not receive the grant, so the board decided to do the improvements in two phases.

The first, costing $536,500 will include a new playground and small picnic shelter, building and replacing trail systems, and a half-court basketball court.

“The goal is to have final design bid and out for construction to be done by year’s end – which is an aggressive goal,” City Administrator Doug Harms said.

The second phase, in 2015, would include replacing the tennis courts, grading the soccer field and finishing work on the trails.

Energy Audit

The Des Peres Board of Aldermen approved an agreement with Trane US Inc. to do an energy audit of utilities in city buildings, including City Hall, The Lodge of Des Peres and the Public Safety building.

“This is an endeavor to upgrade our climate systems throughout our buildings,” said City Administrator Doug Harms. “The analysis of energy cost savings measures to reduce operating cost could result in an estimated savings of $2 million to $3 million.”

The city is not responsible for any expenses relating to conducting the analysis, unless the city agrees to a final agreement with specific energy savings measures recommended.

Three Kings Public House

The board also approved Three Kings Public House’s request for a restaurant in the shuttered Mosaic Fusion Restaurant, 11925 Manchester Road.

Three Kings agreed to wooden sound walls on the north and east side of the restaurant, to direct lighting downward so as not to disturb neighboring residences, and to have no more than 34 tables on its patio.

Opening is planned on July 1.
